National Museum Cardiff

This project was a workshop aimed to empower young individuals by immersing them in a world of artistic exploration and experimentation. It offered a diverse range of art mediums and practices, including movement expression, plastic arts, music, and film, allowing the students to engage with a vibrant community of artists.

Our project drew inspiration from the captivating exhibition "The Rules of Art". This exhibition brought together an array of artistic forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, and ceramics that spanned across five centuries. Its purpose was to delve into profound questions surrounding representation, identity, and culture, utilising a thoughtfully curated medium with music.

As the invited musician for this project, I conducted a captivating masterclass that taught participants how to effectively harness musical instruments and techniques to convey various emotions and scenarios. With a strong foundation established, we embarked on an improvisational exercise, using a series of excerpts and scenarios as creative launching points.

To conclude the workshop, we turned for inspiration to a Welsh folk tale. Through a small but compelling performance, participants had the chance to showcase their newly acquired skills and tap into their limitless creativity. It was a moment to celebrate their artistic growth and achievements.
